EXPERIENCING THE BLESSINGS OF MINISTERING TO OTHERS
As we continue to focus our church’s WARM programme
on the aspect of ministering one to another, let us be encouraged by the
examples of two elders of our church who write about their experience in
ministering to others…
1. Elder Khoo Peng Kiat writes:
Jesus said, "…The Son of man came not to be
ministered unto, but to minister" (Matthew 20:28; Mark 10:45; Luke
22:27; see also Philippians 2:7-8; Titus 2:14). Our Lord was a perfect
example of humility and servant-hood (John 13:1-15). He came to this
earth not to be served but to serve others and to give His life a ransom
for many.
The "WARM Ministry" initiated by brother Woh Weng and
his wife Siew Kiang and son Mark is commendable. I praise and thank God
for their caring concern in wanting to see that Life Church is not only
full of life but also full of love and service (John 13:34-35; see also
Titus 3:8; Hebrews 10:24).
How I have been ministering to members of the church
and their loved ones
I have been ministering to our church members and
their loved ones in one way or another for over fifty years. The joy of
the Lord has been my strength and will be your strength in serving Him
and His people. Let us never get tired of serving, for service is one of
the hallmarks of Christianity (Galatians 6:9-10). It is not only more
blessed to give but it is also more blessed to serve for we are saved to
serve and do good works (Ephesians 2:10)
My background as a hospital staff has been a great
asset to me in serving church members and their loved ones and also
others. What really matters in ministering to God and people is: not
one’s ability but one’s readiness and availability when called upon to
do so. (1Samuel 3:10; Isaiah 6:8)
In serving God, ‘little people’ are important. In
God’s sight, however, there are no little people. Everyone is
significant to Him (Matthew 25:40).

Conclusion
Church Visitation Ministry is a very important care
ministry that no church can afford not to be involved in because as
Christians we are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers. Whether visiting
members in their home or in the hospital, church visitation ministry is
an important arm of the church. Calling to see a person or a family
especially the sick and bereaved is particularly important because by
such visits individuals and families are edified, encouraged and
strengthened. As Christians we need to think of ways and means to
encourage one another in manifesting love and good deeds (Hebrews
10:24). And this is by:
• showing care, concern and compassion for people
• encouraging and edifying members of the Body of
Christ
• witnessing to the unsaved according to God’s
command
• visiting the bereaved to encourage and comfort
them
• exhorting others to be involved in care
ministry
2. Elder Sng Teck Leong writes:
Ministering to others is ministering to the Lord,
especially to the household of faith. Members have requested us to
minister to their in-laws, relatives and friends, even at wedding
dinners and funeral wakes and hospitals. They have specifically informed
us whom we ought to speak to concerning the gospel.
It’s a joy to be called upon to minister to them. In
hospital we were sometimes called at the eleventh hour to minister to
their loved ones. Our ministering even goes beyond following fellowship
groups’ visitation. We go beyond our shores to minister to brethren at
Tanjung Uban, Tanjung Pinang, Kelapa Sawit even in Kuching recently.
Not only do we want to bring the gospel to the
unsaved but also to minister to those who are concerned for their
unsaved brethren and friends.
We thank God for this ministry He has bestowed on us.
For we are blessed to see that our labour for Him is not in vain.
Through the hospital ministry families have seen their loved ones like
their mother, father, and sisters coming to the Lord and being baptised.
Recently an eighty year old mother accepted the Lord as her Saviour
before she left for heaven. Her elderly daughter accepted the Lord too
and is worshipping with us now. She is preparing to attend catechism
class next year.
We were asked to minister to a sister whom one of our
sisters met at a clinic. After a few follow-up sessions she accepted the
Lord and is reading her Bible. Recently she was baptized by another
church. May God be praised!
A couple in our church requested us to minister to
both their parents and parents-in-law with God’s Word. They are happy to
have Bible study with us on Thursdays and Fridays respectively. Their
hearts are open to accept the Lord as their Saviour. We are looking
forward to the day when they will publicly confess the Lord publicly in
baptism.
Many beloved brethren have come forward with their
financial help to encourage the brethren who are in need in our hospital
ministry. We thank God for such financial assistance to lift up their
financial burdens. Truly the Lord loves those who are cheerful givers.
This is a 24-hour ministry. Lifers who feel moved to
enter into this ministry may see us to bring joy and eternal blessings
of the gospel to others in the Asian/Singaporean context of evangelism
and ministering. Through us and our team of dialect-speaking brethren
you may be able to bring the gospel in Hokkien, Cantonese, Hainanese or
Teochew to your brethren who need Christ. We are but his labourers. All
glory be to God and to Him alone!

FELLOWSHIP
Fellowship is a precious thing.
It’s two hearts that meet at the selfsame spring
Of Living Water, thereby to discover
Their thirsty hearts are akin to each other.
Fellowship is that sweet surprise
Of two souls looking with faith’s bright eyes
Upon the beauty of Jesus the Lord,
And finding, in looking, their kindred accord.
Fellowship is the pleasant song
Of two lives coming apart from the throng
And in tuning of self to God’s perfect key,
Find each tuned to the other in sweet harmony.
Fellowship is a chain of gold –
Each link a meeting with Christ, to behold
Him and learn of Him day by day –
Two minds in agreement with God’s revealed way.
Beloved one, this fellowship sweet
We’ve shared together at our Saviour’s feet
Is just the HORS D’OEUVRE of the feast to be spread
For us in the presence of the Living Bread.
