This year, our church theme is “Towards a
Growing and Fruit-bearing Christian Life”. As Christian parents, we
are all reminded from God’s word in Proverbs 22:6 which says, “Train
up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not
depart from it.” May I encourage all parents to heed God’s word and
bring your children to join us each week for a time of learning from the
Word of God.
We thank God for providing a team of 20 dedicated
and caring teachers to teach the children God’s word. Each Lord’s Day,
these teachers and children meet at 9.30 am sharp at the Greek & Hebrew
Room. We begin with a time of singspiration before the children go to
their respective classes, according to their age groups, for Bible
lessons. Through the Bible lessons, the children learn how to be more
Christ-like and good testimonies for Him.
Other than
Sunday School classes each week, the Department has also involved itself
in overseas missions. Last December, a team of 18 teachers and their
family members organized a Christmas programme, which included songs and
games, for the children in
Batam,
Indonesia.
We were much blessed to have been able to minister to the brethren
there, and to share the joy and hope of Christmas with them through a
short skit. We thank God for the fruitful time spent interacting with
the children through games as well as art and craft. The teachers
themselves also enjoyed the fellowship one with another throughout the
trip.
Another special programme that the Department had
last year was the annual Christmas gathering with the Junior Department.
Children from both departments, together with their parents, gathered
for a time of fellowship and fun through games and food. There was also
a short message by Brother Arthur Wong, which reminded everyone of the
gift of Christ our Saviour during Christmas. It was also a time where
teachers and parents could get to know one another better, in an
informal setting.
Once again, I would like to encourage you, if you
do have children aged 18 months to 8 years old, to bring them to the
Sunday School so that we can abide God’s words in Deuteronomy 6:7 which
says, “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and
shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and thou walkest by
the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”
Below is a list of
the classes that we have:
Pre-Nursery (18 months –
3 years old) – FEK Room 1
Nursery and K1 (4 – 5
years old) – FEK Room 3
K2 (6 years old) – Cry
room kitchen
Primary 1 (7 years old)
– FEK Room 4
Primary 2 (8 years old)
– Greek & Hebrew Room
We look forward to seeing your children with us!

Below is the
testimony of Sister Rhoda Lim who teaches the Pre-Nursery class:
Our Church theme for
2008 is Towards a Growing and Fruit-bearing Christian life.
At one glance, this theme may seem to have no bearing nor relevance
for the youngest Sunday School class in Life Church, which is the
Pre-Nursery Class catering to little toddlers aged between
one-and-a-half to three years old.
But on second thought, this theme is after all a good challenge to
both teachers and parents alike who teach/have children in the
Pre-Nursery Class. As we see the little ones grow in stature, it should
also be our heart’s desire and prayer that they likewise grow in wisdom
in the Lord.
Every Lord’s Day from 9.30am to 10.30am in FEK Classroom 1,
the Pre-Nursery Class begins with 10-15 minutes of singspiration. Then,
we have another 10-15 minutes of Bible story-telling. Finally, the
children can take as long as they like for the handwork which serves to
reinforce the Bible story they have just heard.
Over the years, the Pre-Nursery Sunday School teachers can testify
that Jesus truly loves the little children. This is because we have
seen and been encouraged by the marvellous ways the Lord has blessed the
songs and Bible stories to the little children, as we witnessed how they
improved in their behaviour.
For the first-timers, they will cling on tightly to their
parents/caregivers and would cry even if the latter is out of sight just
for a while. Once they get more familiar with the classroom setting and
the teachers and their fellow Sunday School friends, they would freely
help themselves during the Sunday School class by walking freely around
and about the classroom.
But by and by, these children would be able to settle down and
participate earnestly in the singspiration, and then pay keen attention
during the story-telling time. It’s really a heartwarming encouragement
when these children begin to repeat the prayers — on their own accord —
after the teachers. Moreover, praise the Lord when parents shared with
us that their children prayed before meals at home without being told or
prompted, and one child even insisted on coming to Sunday School when
she was not well — she told her parents that she wanted to sing praises
to Jesus and hear the Bible story in Sunday School.
Then, apart from the little ones, “unintended” fruits of deeper
fellowship and closer ties have been borne among the sisters (among
teachers and between teachers and the mothers). Throughout the week,
SMSes and emails were exchanged to encourage one another in the Lord and
to bear one another’s prayer burdens. As a result, we really delight in
meeting one another on the Lord’s Day as we catch up on what has
transpired during the week and to update one another on new prayer
requests.
If you have children in this age group of 1.5-3 years, we urge you to
bring them to the Pre-Nursery Sunday School and share with us the joy of
watching them grow up — both physically and in their love for Jesus.
