Seng Kang Neighbourhood Bible Community

Nothing beats a myriad of testimonies from fellow Seng Kang’ers about their feelings toward the NBC. Here it goes:

“What’s NBC for?” I once asked. I had once shunned Neighborhood Bible Classes, after reasoning within me, that I had other church activities and did not need the extra bible classes. It was not before long that curiosity, the need for more fellowship with other fellow Christians, especially fellow Life Church members got the better of me. I then said to myself, “Oh well, what’s the harm of having another fellowship meeting on a Friday? It’s so near my home anyway.” So began my journey into the world of NBC and did I enjoy myself? I sure did!

One year has passed since the first visit to an NBC upon Sister June’s persistent invitations, at Pr Eduardo Morante’s home in Seng Kang in February 2004. After 6 months, due to a change in Pr Eduardo’s ministry, I found myself landed with the burden and responsibility of leading Seng Kang NBC for Bible study in August 2004. After enjoying the sweet fellowship and warmth of other brethren in Christ, the makan and more importantly, praising God together and learning God’s Word together and being able to identify ourselves as part of ‘Life BPC Seng Kang’ers’, I have grown to love this unique form of fellowship and it is something you cannot find in every weekly gathering in Church. It is personal. It is closer and it is near our home.”

“Must say that I can not recall what year it was that I started attending the Sengkang NBC. I was there at the first meeting when Rev Charles Seet was the speaker. Preacher Ed Morante and Janet Choo were hosting the meetings for some time.

How I benefited from the NBC? It was countless blessings and opportunity to fellowship with church members that we hardly had the time on Sundays to do so.  It is a good platform for sharing and praying for each other at very
informal settings.   More importantly, I realized there is so much more to
learn from the Bible and how little I know.  Thank God for June Lim's
generosity, hospitality and faith in hosting the NBC month after month.”

“It is a joy to open your home to the Lord’s people and to bless His children. That is the best way to teach your children to serve the Lord and fellowship with fellow Christians. I am glad all the Seng Kang’ers like my place. I want to thank God for the opportunity to serve Him as Seng Kang NBC’s coordinator. “

“I like it to be open and have plenty of discussions. There is more 2-way communications and I do hope even much more. We love the fellowship and lots of food!” - Bro Casey, Sis Simone & Little Hannah (Extreme right in photo 4)

“I have been attending NBC for about a year now and have never looked back since.  The NBC is a very good place for fellowship and learning God’s Word.  I benefited much from attending NBC.  Through the monthly gatherings, I am able to get to know some of my fellow brethren better.  I thank God for the hospitality of Sister June Lim for opening up her home monthly for our NBC and Eng Teck for preparing Bible study.  It is my prayer that we will grow spiritually and physically month after month.”

The Lord has brought talented brethren in our midst as well: Bro Alvin Tan who has chaired our meetings and shared devotion and his wife Shirley from nearby Hougang (2nd from left in photo 4); Sis Pauline (3rd from right in Photo 5) who has often prepared food like curries, fried Bee Hoon and Kway Teow, for the NBC, husband (extreme left in photo 2) and daughter, Lauren (extreme left in photo 5); and also June’s two sons: Ian who plays the guitar and Ryan who bakes delicious cakes and cooks exotic meals for the fellowship.

This year, we have chosen to study on our Lord’s Sermon on the Mount from the Gospel of Matthew. We have sat at the feet of Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones for the last 2 sessions already since in December 2004 and January 2005. We have also planned for interesting topics pertaining to struggles in our faith and arranged for speakers to speak to us. Our theme for this year is to know Christ personally and make Christ known through us, which was the reason we wanted to study the Sermon on the Mount.

If you considered what great things the Lord has done for you and you want to know Him more. If you feel that there is a need for closer fellowship with other Life Church brethren and you live around Seng Kang and Hougang. If you want to learn God’s Word, and make your life count for Christ. Come and join us at Seng Kang NBC!
