SUNDAY SCHOOL PRIMARY DEPARTMENT

 

Looking back on 2009, we thank God for the increase in the number of children attending Sunday School every Lord’s Day. For the year 2010, the theme for the Primary Department is “Abide in God’s Word and lead a Godly Life”, in line with the theme for the Church in 2010, “Aflame for God, Committed to Godliness”.  To be A-flamed for God, I hereby encourage parents to heed this reminder and bring your children to join us each week for a time of learning God’s Word.  Let us abide in God’s Word to lead a Godly life, as His Word in Psalm 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee”.

We thank God for Life Church Sunday School which caters for all ages, even those as young as 18 months! In the Primary Department, we welcome children aged 18 months to 8 years old to join us in learning God’s Word every Lord’s Day.  We begin each week by praising God with songs at 9.30a.m at the Greek & Hebrew Room. The children sing wholeheartedly and prayerfully before they go to their respective classes for their weekly lessons prepared by our dedicated teachers. We thank and praise God for 23 dedicated teachers who come faithfully each Sunday to serve Him in this ministry.  They have been inspired by God’s Word in Deuteronomy 6:7 which says, “And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”

It is our desire to continue to grow in the Lord, and lead fruit bearing Christian lives as we serve Him and minister to the young ones. We also pray that the young ones in our care will grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ through the weekly teaching from the Westminster Shorter Catechism, the learning of Bible Truths from the Accent Bible Curriculum, and the various activities prepared by our Sunday School teachers.

If you have children aged 8 months to 8 years old, we encourage you to bring them to join us every Lord’s Day, so that we can all “abide in God’s Word and lead Godly lives”.

Pre-Nursery Sunday School in Year 2010

At the dawn of 2010, someone said that we should take stock of the first decade of the 21st century in order to meet the challenges of the next decade.  In the context of Life B-P Church Sunday School, the aforesaid sentiment aptly reflects the objective of the Primary Department.

A key goal of the Primary Department is to train up young children in the way of the Lord during the first 9-10 years of their young lives, so that they will have a godly heritage to meet the many challenges in their teenage years.

And within the Primary Department, the Pre-Nursery Class caters to the needs of little ones aged between 18 months and 3 years old.  Our class starts at 9.30am every Lord’s Day in the FEK room with the Green Doors.  A typical lesson goes like this:

9.30 - 9.50am Play Time
Toys of all sorts are strewn on the colourful rubber mats.  The children usually make a beeline for these toys.  Hence, the Play Time is an effective means of helping especially the new children to be willing to step in and stay on in a new environment.

9.50 - 10.10am Singspiration
Led by sisters Eunice Yeo and Joy Wong, the children learn to sing praises to Jesus from a young age.  Offerings are also collected during this timeslot, and the children are trained to give cheerfully to the Lord (which they do with childlike earnestness) and then pray to give thanks.

10.10 - 10.30am Bible Story Time and Worksheet
The little ones are taught lessons from the Bible through stories and graphic aids.  This is followed by a simple worksheet whereupon the little ones paste stickers and colour to help them reinforce the lesson they have learnt.
To help our little ones grow and develop through the Pre-Nursery SS, we need to have a conducive environment especially during the Bible Story time.  Hence, all parents of Pre-Nursery Class children are urged to abide by the following guidelines:

Pre-Nursery Sunday School Guidelines for Parents 2010

1. You are encouraged to drop off your child on time for Sunday School.

2. During playtime and singspiration, you may sit with your child on the mat.  During story-time, only children and Sunday School staff are allowed on the mat; you are requested to sit on the chair.

3. A 3-month period for you to stay with your child so that you can attend Sunday School thereafter.

4. To achieve the abovementioned 3-month wean-off period, we urge you to regularly talk to your child at home about being alone in Sunday School class on his/her own.

So, dear parents, if you have children in the age range of 18 months to 3 years old, do join us at the FEK Room with the Green Doors.
