“Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days.”

GAF Committee with Rev Colin Wong

History

The Golden Age Fellowship of Life B-P Church was founded ten years ago in April 2000 by Mrs Seow Chong Pin. She saw the need to cater to the senior members of the church. Since then, the Fellowship had been meeting every quarter at Mrs Seow’s home on Saturday 4 pm at 7, Lily Avenue or at the Church premises. Meetings are conducted in English and Chinese.

With the blessings from the Lord, many of our senior brethren are enjoying good health, independence and a good quality life. They are able to contribute positively to the welfare and growth of the church. They provide love and concerns to those who are less privileged and bring joy to those who are infirmed.

As our population age, there is a need for the body of Christ to look into the useful activities of our senior members.

A committee was set up in October 2007 comprising bro Tan Thiam Hong (Chairman), bro Ong Beng Hong (Dy Chairman), sis Evelyn Tay (Secretary), Dn John Ching (Treasurer), Mrs Seow Chong Pin (English session Co-ordinator) and Mrs Sng Teck Leong (Chinese session Co-ordinator). The Committee would like to thank Rev Colin Wong for overseeing the GAF activities since its inception.

Objective

“Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing” (Psalm 92:13-14).

The purpose of the Golden Age Fellowship is to promote the spiritual health of its senior members of the church. It also provides a venue for them to come together to share God’s blessings in their lives, strengthen their friendship in the Lord and make new friends. They shall still bring blessings to others.

The Fellowship Meeting

We thank the Lord for good attendance all these years. We have on average more than 50 brethren and friends attending the meeting. In the fellowship meeting we invite our pastors, elders or external speakers to share the Word of God. Messages are interpreted either to Mandarin or one of the Chinese dialects. There are also testimonies from members to give a word of wisdom. Job 12:12 says, “With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.”

Other Activities

The Golden Age Fellowship has other activities for the elderly:

1. Excursion
Every August, the Fellowship would organize a half a day excursion/outing for the elderly to visit places of interest like factories, farms and parks. In August 09, the outing attracted 130 members and friends from both English and Chinese sessions.

2. Health Talk
Specific health talk was arranged to keep the elderly updated on health problems and how to keep well and healthy for the Lord’s service.

We hope to conduct this talk once a year from our own Lifers in the medical profession or outside doctors.

3. Visitation
There are regular visits to our senior members to keep each other in touch. GAF also bring comfort with hospital visits.

4. Anniversary Thanksgiving Day
GAF celebrated its 10th anniversary on 6 March 2010, more than 150 attended this Thanksgiving service. Brethren from the Music Department provided String Quartet accompaniment, LTF, MF/LF and the Chinese Choir presented special items. God willing, we will continue with this celebration to thank the Lord for His goodness in preserving the Golden Age group of the Church.

All are Welcome

The Golden Age Fellowship welcomes senior members of the Church to join its quarterly meetings and activities. Younger ones are most welcome to show love, care and concern for the elderly.

Looking Ahead

The Golden Age Fellowship desires to do much more for the elderly in the Church. We encourage many younger members of the Church to join or interact with the elderly. They can also learn from the elderly for “Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days”

We also wish that the Lord will continue to use our seniors to bear fruits for Him. “They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.”
