Activities
The choir spent last Christmas caroling
at the Epilepsy Centre’s (housed in the
building next to the church) Christmas
event, and at the Kwong Wai Siew home
for the elderly. The Epilepsy Centre’s event
saw the choir present carols and Christmas
stories to about thirty members of staff
and patients. The effort at the Kwong
Wai Siew home was a combined one with
the Chinese Service choir. Though the
programme faced its hiccups, God’s hand
was obvious. Originally planning to carol
ward-by-ward, we realised on the spot
that there were too many wards for one
group to cover in time. By God’s grace,
Elder Sng had come along and we could
therefore split the group into two, with Bee
Choo leading the other group, to ‘divide
and conquer’. Within His purpose, we
managed to briefly share the gospel from
ward to ward despite the persecution of
strange stares from visiting relatives and
members of the hospital staff. One patient
also asked for the church to visit her again
to talk more about God!
Members of the choir were greatly encouraged by the two combined efforts with the Chinese Service Choir – the Kwong Wai Siew home caroling event and a subsequent combined choir item at both the Chinese and English worship services. What was most heartening was the dedication and faithfulness of the Chinese Service Choir that always managed to turn out in full force, and serve the Lord without murmuring and with joy. Indeed, “the fire of their devotion will light the way” for the generations to come. The congregation was also encouraged by the combined choir item – both choirs are thus planning a sequel in the near future.
Numbers
The Lord also blessed the choir richly with
new additions; both young and young-at heart
members that joined the choir in the
past year. Some were new, and some old
faces who returned to the choir after time
away. In an answer to our prayers, the choir
was strengthened by the addition of several
new sopranos!
Fellowship
Being a service group of young and old, new
and established, the choir saw the need for
members to get to know one another beyond
just knowing the sound of one another’s
voices. Since last year, breakfast fellowship
was introduced once a month where, apart
from singing, choir members had a chance
to bond over food.
Prayers
Finally, the choir would appreciate the
congregation’s prayers:
(a) that choir members will continue to grow in their love for God and serve Him faithfully;
(b) for God’s direction and the choir’s service at upcoming events, including plans for caroling and ministry at Christmas 2008.
